I swing the door open and notice his eyes widen just a little as his mouth parts. My lips spread into a soft smile. I can smell his cologne, pine and sandalwood and they linger with the coconut from my perfume. The two of them together are an intoxicating blend that fills the thick porch air.
“Ah you look gorgeous,” he says in a raspy tone, that is oh so sexy.
“Thank you. You look nice,” I say unintentionally softly. And he does. He is wearing a navy looser fitting button down, unbuttoned at the top just two buttons, cream khaki pants revealing his ankles and white tennis shoes. Dressed up a little but sexy, so sexy. I have never seen him dressed like this. Usually, it is jeans and a vineyard tee shirt which don’t get me wrong has its own appeal. But this is just…
“Ready to go?” he asks, holding out his hand to help me down the porch steps.
“I have no clue where we are going, but yes I am ready,” I say. He ignores my comment, only responding with a smirk.
About 20 minutes later, a few turns on unfamiliar roads we are pulling into a long twisting driveway with a black and white sign reading, Strawberry Farms Bistro & Barn. The twisting driveway shortly reveals a big black and white barn. Strung lights already on off to the right, trees and fields lining both sides of the driveway. It’s beautiful. “What is this place?” I ask.
“It’s a farm, turned upscale restaurant. Similar to Grayson actually but with strawberries instead of wine,” he says, point to the left to another smaller matching barn. “They have a little shop where they sell their jams, baked goods, usually all involving strawberries or some other berry grown on their farm. And then in the big barn, it’s a restaurant. They have really good local farm to table food. I went to school with the brother and sister duo who opened and own this place.”
“So, we are here to get ideas for our, I mean your restaurant?” I ask hoping he doesn’t comment on the word our slipping out. As if I could take any credit at all.
“No. We are here to have our first date,” he says before he parks, and gets out to open my door. Leaving me sitting there speechless. Our first date.
